BADMINTON VICTORIA EXCLUSIVE – PROGRAMS
JUNIOR PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
BEGINNER LEVELS:
Beginner Level I
- minimal to no experience in badminton
- no equipment necessary
- priority of the class is to have fun, learn basic skills, fundamental movement
- ages 6+
Class will teach:
- basic forehand and backhand grips with associated strokes including forehand serving
- fundamental movement including shuffling, running, skipping, balance, throwing and catching
- basic overhead swing, with the goal of making contact as priority
Beginner Level II
Requirements
- Should the ability to make decent contact reliably with limited missing the shuttle
- Should have a basic understanding of forehand and backhand grips and their associated motions
- Should have the ability to perform fundamental movement skills (properly): shuffling, running, skipping, throwing, catching etc
- Should have a decent overhead swing/contact and forehand and backhand motions including forehand serving
Class will teach:
- Refining fundamental movement including: shuffling, running, skipping, throwing, catching etc
- Proper overhead preparation and swing technique
- Basic footwork around the court
- Introducing movement backwards into hitting motion
- Introducing specific shots: overhead clears, drops/smashes as well as forehand and backhand nets and lifts
- Proper technique for lunging and overhead preparation
Intermediate
Requirements
- Should have very good contact with the ability to direct the shuttle and demonstrate some control
- Should have the ability to move fluidly with decent coordination and balance
- Should have a very good understanding and ability to perform forehand and backhand underhand strokes with relatively decent consistency and quality
- Should have the ability to move forward and backwards to hit the shuttle with proper lunging
- Should have the understanding of how to prepare for hitting the shuttle and contact point
Class will teach:
- Scissoring, while moving backwards as well as proper recovery footwork
- Reinforce grips and associated motions with small adjustments to grips including different backhand grips
- Introduction to split step(s) and recovery positions
- Understanding of hitting a shot, recovering into position and moving to the shuttle under various circumstances
- Ability to move to all corners of the court and various footwork based on speed/timing/distance
- Refining overhead stroke to improve quality and consistency of shots including clears, smashes and drops while also adding direction and controlling speed/trajectory
Junior Competitive
Requirements
- All athletes must be approved by coaching staff prior to attending a practice of this level
- If athletes have video or are able to attend an intermediate practice, coaches will be able to determine at that point whether they are ready or not
- Adult competitive programs are a little more relaxed with these rules but they are put in place to ensure that all athletes benefit from the practices
Jr High Performance & High Performance
Requirements
- All athletes must be approved by coaching staff prior to attending a practice of this level
- If athletes have video or are able to attend an intermediate practice, coaches will be able to determine at that point whether they are ready or not
